Current R&D/S&T Activities

Bone marrow is a complex tissue composed of multiple somatic cells  such as adipocytes, osteoblasts, endothelial cells, reticular cells, macrophages, fibroblasts, and two stem cell populations - hematopoietic and mesenchymal. In this complex environment are present small pockets, known as niche, which harbors these two stem cell populations. The intricate cross-talk between the cells, extracellular matrix, and secretory factors like chemokines, growth factors and exosomes, plays an important role in maintaining normal homeostasis. Thus, any kind of stress due to exposure to environmental pollutant or drug can disturb the homeostatic balance and can contribute to disease condition.

Keeping this in mind, the research focus of the lab are:

  • Effect of xenobiotics on mesenchymal stem cell differentiation and its underlying mechanism.
  • Role of osteoblast in conferring chemoprotection to Acute Myeloid Leukemia
