Areas of Specialization
Air pollution and health risk assessment in urban area. Environmental monitoring of various industrial pollutants and recommendation of remedial measures. Assessment of Environmental hazards/Environmental Risk due to coal Power Plants.
Current R&D/S&T Activities

  • Characterization of coal fly ash-a solid waste of coal thermal power plant by modern instruments for various environmental applications; non-conventional utilization, toxicity  study and management of coal fly ash.
  • Development of suitable  low cost eco-friendly adsorbents /  different polymeric compounds  alternative to expensive activated carbons for (i) colour removal from textile mill effluent, (ii) removal of heavy metals and (iii) fluoride from  water and wastewater
  • Study of inhalable fine particulates (PM10, PM2.5) and associated heavy metals/ polyaromatic hydrocarbons/ Benzene/ toluene and xylene produced from vehicular discharge in urban area & risk assessment of these potential health hazard pollutants
  • Study of Environmental Effect and Risk Assessment of water, soil and noise pollution of Industrial area as well as noise pollution of urban area.

Summary of Research

  • We are in search of low cost ecofriendly adsorbents alternative to expensive activated carbon which should have better removal capacity of colour from textile mill effluent; heavy metal and fluoride from industrial wastewater.
  • Characterization coal and coal fly ash for  non-conventional use and environmental applications; determine the magnitude of short / middle and long term toxicity  due to fly ash dumping sites and  proper management of coal fly ash.
  • Qualitative and quantitative study of health affecting environmental pollutants of Lucknow city to estimate the load of disease burden among urban population.
